Investing on what matters most

THE BEST PROFESSION IN THE WORLD

It was a quiet Saturday night when my cell phone rang. Already settled in bed with a book, I noticed the caller ID and immediately picked up—it was one of my clients. Her voice, trembling with tears, revealed a life-altering event: her husband of 28 years had just asked for a divorce. She was a woman who had tirelessly worked two jobs to support their family and put their five children through college, anticipating a shared future with her husband that had now vanished.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, I suggested we meet for breakfast the next morning. As we sat across from each other, the weight of her emotions—fear, anger, and confusion—was palpable. Amidst her myriad questions, one stood out: “Will I survive this?” Understanding that my role extended beyond financial advice, I listened, empathized, and prayed with her, and together we crafted a comprehensive plan.

Two years later, she stood transformed, thriving in her own condo, embodying beauty and confidence. Her journey from vulnerability to empowerment was magnificent to witness. She thanked me, saying, “This wouldn’t have happened without your help,” highlighting the profound impact of being there not only as a Financial Advisor but as an emotional and spiritual support.

This experience underscored the essence of my work—inspiring and helping clients navigate life’s toughest transitions, reinforcing my commitment to guiding others toward their dreams, even in uncertain times.

I love my job. Someone once said that if you do what you love, you will not work one single day in your life. Though I cannot say this is totally true (some days are work and stressful), the majority of my days is heaven, because I truly love what I do.

I am a Financial Advisor with one of the best companies in the industry. I love talking with people about their dreams, their goals, and what is really important to them. I love teaching financial principles and the continuous learning that implies doing this job. I even love seeing the market as it moves. I truly enjoy reading the graphs and seeing how the “Invisible Hand” designs the world’s economy.[1]

Being a Financial Advisor means I always carry a great responsibility on my shoulders, as I am investing people’s money. The question I get the most is, How do you do it? Can a Christian truly be a Financial Advisor? Didn’t Jesus say that we should not love money? How can you work on Wall Street and truly be a Christian?

I believe that Christians can be anything the Lord calls them to be. In the Bible, we find politicians like Daniel and Nehemiah; Kings, kind of the figure of a President today, like David, Hezekiah, and Josiah; businesspeople like Lidia, doctors like Luke, fishermen like Peter and his friends…. And the list can go on and on. A profession will not make someone holy. It will also not make him a sinner.

So… how do you keep a balance? Keeping your eyes fixed on the Lord. And that means making time each and every day to sit at His feet and listen. To train your heart and mind to understand His voice. If you do that, you will see God everywhere. You will understand His purpose and why he has you exactly in the place you are right now. My office is His temple as much as my body, my home, or my church.

For me, it means sharing about eternal retirement with my clients. Praying for their needs. Demonstrate real love by taking care of their needs before considering mine. Not having fear when the Dow goes down because I know that the Invisible Hand that leads the market is the Person I trust the most, and He knows exactly what He is doing. It means overall, realizing that, as much as I love this job, it is not my God. My Father in heaven is, and His Kingdom always comes first.

In 7,000 Knees we understand this principle. Ministry is done in the office, in the streets, in the hospitals, by nurses, police officers, and yes… Financial Advisors. If you are excited about connecting with others who have the same vision, come and join us. You will be truly encouraged, and you will become very effective as a Kingdom’s Agent.

[1] The unobservable market force that helps the demand and supply of goods in a free market to reach equilibrium automatically is the invisible hand. The term was first used by Adam Smith in his book: The Wealth of Nations.
