About Dr. Fanny Basta
Hi! I’m Fanny Cruz — but many people simply call me Fanny Basta, after my husband’s last name. In Italy, where I got married, women keep their maiden names, so I embrace both!
I’m a Christian author, Bible teacher, speaker, former diplomat, missionary, and now, a marketplace professional. My greatest passion is helping others grow closer to Jesus and deepen their relationship with Him.
My faith journey began when I encountered Jesus personally while sitting in a dentist’s chair in the Caribbean ( the Dominican Republic) as a teenager. That moment changed everything for me. From that point on, I knew God was calling me to live for Him, and my life became a wild, faith-filled adventure…
How Do You Know God Is Real?
The first time I wondered about God was in my natal Dominican Republic. As a child, I grew up on my parents’ farm. It was pure fun every day—swimming in our river, riding horses, and playing with other children. In the afternoons, I had a favorite tree where I would lie on the grass and wait for sunset. The heavens would fall with colors – What a splendor! And during those tropical evenings, I loved to lie down and gaze at the stars. There’s nothing more beautiful than a tropical night, with a cool breeze refreshing the air and a sky full of stars!
It was then that I first knew for sure that God existed. I remember going home and asking my mom: “Who created all this?” Her simple answer was: “God did.”
